DIRECTV On Its Way to a Hot Streak with Mississippi Grind
The writer Tim Cahill once said “A journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles.” That it wasn’t so much the mileage that mattered but the journey, and the lives you touched along the way. Of course, there is still something to be said about the physical trek one must make from point A to point B. No matter how small or how large in scale – to the corner store or a whole other country – an actual change of scene can be just as transformative as the people you meet along the way…especially if you have a true friend to share it with. Therein lies the heart and soul of the DIRECTV exclusive Mississippi Grind.
Mississippi Grind is yet another theatrical production making its debut not on the big screen, but on the small screen. Part of the joint DIRECTV-A24 partnership, it comes shortly after the release of the critically-acclaimed Dark Places, which starred Charlize Theron. However, unlike gritty and mysterious Dark Places, Mississippi Grind opts for a dramedy centered on the oft-humorous and sometimes dark exploits of two gamblers played by Ryan Reynolds and Ben Mendelsohn.
Both Reynolds and Mendelsohn pull out all the stops, portraying the dynamic duo of Curtis and Gerry, respectively. Gerry’s gambling has gotten out of control and he’s now in debt up to his eyeballs. However, he soon finds a lucky charm in the form of the young and charismatic Curtis who seems to have a real knack for winning. Together, the two hit the road and will ultimately end up at a high stakes poker game in New Orleans where it’s either make it or break it. All the while learning more about themselves, their motivations and forming an unbreakable bond. In short, Mississippi Grind could be this generation’s The Legend of Bagger Vance.
Mississippi Grind will be one of the highest-profile films to air exclusively on DIRECTV prior to hitting theatres. Sienna Miller (American Sniper), Analeigh Tipton (Crazy, Stupid, Love), Robin Weigert (The Session) and Alfre Woodard (12 Years a Slave) will also join the cast, bolstering the players of this production and promising some amazing acting.
With one critically-acclaimed, theatrical exclusive under their belt, DIRECTV might just be hitting a hot streak with the upcoming Mississippi Grind!
If you can’t wait to see the trials and tribulations of these two powerhouse actors, you can catch Mississippi Grind before it hits theatres exclusively on DIRECTV VOD. Mississippi Grind hits theatres September 25th .
